Why Do Students Choose
by Tammy Rider and Patty Lee
^^^ tudents choose Augsburg College for many
k ^P reasons. The reasons arc as diverse as the
^»»^^ students themselves. People from Fargo, from
Pennsylvania, from north Minneapolis and from Ethiopia. Kids right out of high school, young adults,
middle-aged people looking for a second career. Black
students, white students, American Indian Students, and
Norwegian students. People from farms and people
from the inner-city. They all have decided to attend a
small college in the heart of the Twin Cities.
Thev come for the urban setting: the internships, the
cultural activity, the diversity of cultures and options.
Augsburg is a place where vou can go five minutes in
one direction and hike along the Mississippi river. Or
go five minutes in another direction and watch the
Minnesota Twins and the Kansas City Royals play in
And Augsburg is small. Thcrc"s a family feeling about
the place. Faculty take a personal interest in their
students, inside and outside of the classroom. Sitting in
the Chin Wag, vou'll not onlv hear a philosophy major
discussing philosophy with the chair of the department.
but also a religion major discussing the Hormel strike
with a biology professor. There arc a lot of lasting
friendships formed this way.
The reasons for choosing Augsburg arc many and for
each student they are personalized. Why Augsburg?
Only the students themselves can say.
