AUGSBURG RANKS HIGH IN A recent news release from the National
PRE-SEMINARY ENROLLMENT Lutheran Council noted that students in
all Lutheran institutions in North America currently have a record enrollment of 95,494, or an increase of 8.37% over last year. But the report noted that the
number of theological students at Lutheran seminaries declined
for the fourth consecutive year.
A November report of the Board of Theological Education of the American Lutheran Church showed that
Augsburg has the second highest enrollment of pre-seminary students of the 11 senior colleges of the ALC even though it does
not stand near that ranking in total enrollment. Augsburg
currently has 97 students who have indicated that they plan to
enroll in a seminary. Obviously, there are others that are
thinking of the seminary but haven't indicated these plans as
yet.
NORTH-SOUTH STUDENT Augsburg has entered into a student ex-
EXCHANGE PROGRAM change program with Fisk University,
Nashville, Term., and Talladega College,
Talladega, Ala., whereby interested students from Augsburg can
attend one of the two Southern negro colleges for a semester
while students from those colleges attend Augsburg. Three
Augsburg students will attend the two schools next semester.
Miss Carol Brand, a junior religion major from Willmar, Minn.,
and Ronald Ferguson, a junior chemistry major from Milaca,
Minn., will attend Fisk University. Bruce Benson, a sophomore
from Center City, Minn., will attend Talladaga College.
CURRICULUM AND TUITION A curriculum change, voted upon last
CHANGES NEXT YEAR year by the faculty after years of
study, will go into effect at Augsburg
next fall. The change centers on a change in calendar from the
semester plan to a modified quarter system. Some of the advantages of the calendar change include involvement of students in
fewer courses at a time, lightening the course-loads for instructors, convenient timing of vacations and term breaks,
adaptability to year-round operations and earlier dismissal in
the spring. Classes will begin on Sept. 6, with commencement
scheduled for May 28. There will be week-long term breaks in
late November and late February to early March. .
Tuition for new students next fall will
be $1250 for the year, but the rate will remain constant for
their four years in school. Currently, tuition is $1,000 per
year, but like other colleges, we find it necessary to raise
tuition each year. Returning students will have a $1100 tui-
